That's why I thought it was a reproduction. Join Date Dec Posts It's original East German, these types of hats are just to common to be worth reproducing yet.
Because of the white tag it was probably at the top of a bundle of 52 unissued hats. Size is European 56 and the year code of "P" is If it does not have either of these marks it could be a para-military organization.

This is East German because the letter date codes are unique to this country. I don't know what organization it was used by. A list of East German date codes can be found on the Gowen Militaria site at: As used by the East German Army, "special duty" meant primarily cooks and other kitchen help, but variations were possible. They are made out of the same fabric and have more or less the same color. Note that the Special Duty caps have no cockade.
